Adaptation and the real Portugal

well, my story is different from the others… i have portuguese roots and wanted to explore them. I always thought portugal was this nice country and i couldn‘t be more wrong.

I lived in different places of the country and After 2 years i was just sad depressed and strung out…..

i did a lot of things, but things always seemed to go wrong because of the way the country is. I ended up leaving Portugal because I felt i was adapting to a toxic society, my brain went into survival mode because of all the Predators around me, somehow my body catched the vibes and i wasn’t myself anymore. I felt i was more „socially intelligent“ , colder but also i felt i wanted to hurt people back and play games. I never experienced such a thing in life… portugal taught me Not to trust anyone, my friends, Family, and people i knew from childhood only wanted to see me in misery, i found out about human nature, and understood there is something deeply wrong in portugal, otherwise I wouldn’t have adapted.

i Hope everyone stays safe.

Portuguese person here. I’ve seen both worlds—one of games and deceit for self-advancement like you described, but also one of unparalleled warmth and confidence that I haven’t found anywhere else.
Honestly I think it comes down to the people you decide to surround yourself with, and the area as well. As some areas develop certain types of people, due to traditions, culture, what have you.
Avoid big cities, go to small villages, that’s where all the best people are.

Portuguese person here. You basically described how this country works. It’s not that people want to see you doing good, just not better than them. No. They are in the s**t and they want to see you even worse. People here are envious, some are malicious, and I’m very much losing any hope that it will change for the better. I’m reaching the age of 30, without any perspective of future atm, and I’m desperate to leave. I really don’t know why someone would come here unless they’re rich and don’t need to work anymore in their lifetime. This is not a nice country to be in if you’re a regular person, with a regular income, living a regular life. I’m sad to say this about my country, but it’s just how I feel.
