Taxes on Sugar

Bevereges that contain and don’t contain sugar are taxed the same 23% tax , like for example coke zero and normal coke. pepsi zero and normal pepsi.

Why do I pay a higher tax because of sugar if the beverage does not have sugar?

It has nothing to do with sugar or not. The VAT rate applicable to beverage sales in the restaurant sector is 23%. This applies to alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, juices, nectars, and carbonated water, or those containing added carbon dioxide or other substances. So coke zero and pepsi zero are part of the list.
